Tas: Strong winds and heavy rain lash Tasmania
HOBART, Aug 24 AAP - Heavy rainfall and strong winds uprooted trees and caused flashflooding throughout Tasmania today.
A police spokesman said the south-east of the island, particularly the Tasman Peninsula,was the worst hit.
But there was also localised flooding in the north-east of the state.
He said damage included uprooted trees, felled power lines and flash flooding.
There were no reports of injuries.
The Bureau of Meteorology estimated the highest rainfall was in the north of the statewith 107mm of rainfall recorded at St Marys in the past 24 hours.
On the Tasman Peninsula, wind speeds were between 70kph and 90kph, with gusts in excessof 100kph.
