Fed: Codes of practice registered for Internet industry

New codes of practice have been announced to regulate the publication of pornography
and other potentially offensive material on the Internet.

The Australian Broadcasting Authority is introducing three codes governing the use
of such material on the web.

ABA chairman Professor DAVID FLINT says the new regulations are a world first because
of their comprehensive nature.

They'll operate in conjunction with the ABA's complaints investigation procedures.

Professor FLINT says they will address many of the public concerns about the Internet.

The codes are due to come into force on January 1.
