WEIGHTS GIVE CBA BIG LIFT.(Sports)

The mercury is pushing 90 degrees outdoors, and in the cramped ex-storage building which serves as their weight training center, the temperature is even hotter as the young men of Christian Brothers Academy lift the heavy metal.

"Ugh..., oomph," are the sounds of a CBA athlete as he struggles with the weights while a tape recorder in the background blares Huey Lewis' voice singing loud enough to be heard on New Scotland Avenue.

The expert eye of Tom Quinn - who says his correct title is that of "strength coach" - is on the scene watching the weightlifters at all times.

Doing this sort of thing in the off- season may not be everyone's idea of paradise, but weight training is something CBA athletes swear by - and sometimes swear …
